Why is our service free for renters?

We provide this great service to renters for free because we are paid a fee by the landlord and/or property management company. Property owners are happy to hire us because they are confident that The DC Apartment Company is the best source for them to find the perfect renter!

Once I find the perfect place, what is the approval process?

Once you find your new home, you first have to complete a Rental Application ($25-$100 per person based on the property). You would also pay a deposit (typically equal to one month’s rent but can vary depending on the property). Once approved, you will schedule your lease signing and pay first month’s rent (this too can vary based on the property).

Can I rent a whole house, or do you only have apartments for rent?

The DC Apartment Company offers many different types of homes for rent. Anywhere from a studio apartment, to a whole home, we have it all!

How far in advance of moving should I start my search?

Typically, renters give 30 to 60 days notice when they are vacating an apartment so it is advisable to start your search around 30-60 days before you plan on moving. Starting your search too early is not advisable as the properties you see at that time will most likely be rented by the time you plan on moving. So for example, if you are looking to move in June, you should start your search in April. If you start your search later than that, no need to worry as we are always getting new properties for rent everyday!

How much money do I need to put down on an apartment?

Most property owners require a deposit (equal to one month’s rent) and then first month’s rent due at lease signing. For example, if you are renting an apartment that is $1000 a month, you will pay a total of $2000 to move in. Although this is standard, it can vary depending on the property owner/property management company.

How do I know which neighborhood is right for me?

DC Apartment Company rental agents are local professionals that are very knowledgeable about all the properties we represent and can help you find the neighborhood that suits your needs. If you have any questions or need advice, our staff are more than happy to help you decide where to live!

What times are available for seeing apartments for rent?

Our properties are available to be shown Monday to Friday 9:00am 7:00pm, and Saturday’s from 9:00am 5:00pm (based on availability). Please contact us at 202-600-9500 to start working with an agent.

What are your office hours? When can I speak to an agent?

Our office hours are Monday through Friday 9:00am to 5:00pm. We are open on Saturday from 10:00am to 3:00pm. But call anytime and if an agent isn’t available just leave a detailed message with your name and contact number
